Q. Do I need to pay to access full text of a journal article?

There should rarely be a case where you would need to pay for a journal article while doing research at Adelphi.

Adelphi Libraries subscribe to a large number of well-regarded journals and provide full-text access to students, faculty, and staff at no charge. Additionally, many journal articles may be obtained through Interlibrary Borrowing. Do not pay for an article unless you have checked with the Library and are certain that you cannot get access to it otherwise.

To locate articles for which you have the publication details, you can search for the article title in the OneSearch advanced search screen, selecting Material Type "Article" from the drop-down menu on the right. If it doesn't come up, you can also try searching for the journal itself in OneSearch. Enter the journal title in the OneSearch advanced search screen, selecting "Journal Titles" from the Material Type drop-down menu on the right. The results page will show the journal record (if we have access) and whether the volume you are searching for is available in full text in any of the AU library databases. You can then search for the correct volume and issue to find your article.

You can also try searching Google Scholar for the article and add a library access link for Adelphi. In Google Scholar, look for the the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines at the top left) and choose Settings, then Library Links. Search for Adelphi and check the boxes for Adelphi. Now when you search for an article in Google Scholar, you will see an access link to get it at Adelphi if it is available in the AU databases (you must be logged in to Adelphi to access).

If the desired article is not available in the AU databases, you can request it through Interlibrary Borrowing

If you have any questions, please visit the library for help or contact us via phone, text, email or chat through our Ask a Librarian page.
