Q. Do I need to create an account on a database site to access the content?

For most online resources you should be able to get access seamlessly without creating an account or signing into a third-party site. This is done through a system called EZProxy that tells the database or other site that you have access as an Adelphi affiliate (student, faculty, staff, or alumni). In most cases you should not need to sign in at all, or if you do, only through Adelphi's "single-sign-on" service using your Adelphi credentials.

In some cases third-party databases or e-resource sites allow you to create an account with your own username and password in order to access to all features—for example, the ability to customize the interface, save favorite items or searches, etc. Before creating a log-in on a third-party site:

  • Verify that we subscribe to the database or resource by finding it in OneSearch or A-Z Databases & More.
  • Try to access/view/download the book, article, or other item you need after following a link in OneSearch or A-Z Databases & More
  • If you wish to create an account on a site we subscribe to, make sure to use your adelphi.edu email address. Do not use your Adelphi password or one that would be easily guessed, and be careful what information you share. Adelphi is not responsible for the security of information shared by an individual with a third-party site.

When in doubt, please reach out to the Library Help Desk (helpdesk@adelphi.edu, 516.877.3340) for assistance with databases or other online resources.
